I actually grew up around Don Bishop Magic Juan... When I was a kid, he lived about 5 blocks from us. In his mother's house. With his mom.
He really was a pimp.
He really wore green (for the money) and gold (for the honeys.)
And everybody hated his guts. Scratch that: The adults with jobs, they hated his guts. I lived in a lower working class black neighborhood and with very few exception everybody either worked, or busted their hump looking for work.
Don Juan didn't work. He didnt have a job that anyone knew about. He was just a mooch. He'd borrow money from people, never pay em back. People thought he was lazy.
As for the pimping? He did that.
As kids we thought it was cool because he had a nice car, crazy clothes, a ton of women around him and it seemed to come from just talking. I mean, we never knew him to be armed and dangerous. We never knew him to do anything but run his mouth. The idea that you could make a living doing just that seemed pretty cool.
Anyway, one day I'll tell yall my Don Juan stories. I got a few stashed away. Meanwhile, as Common once reflexively told MC Lyte:
"Eff you then, I'm about to go an be a preacher!"
